Last year, the Bishop Road Reps helped to design the new playground equipment that was going to be built on Grant playground. After a generous contribution from the PTFA, the school raised enough money to build new playground equipment to replace the old staging. The Bishop Road Reps designed what they imagined the perfect equipment to look like, taking into consideration accessibility, health and safety and pure enjoyment. They wanted equipment that had multiple entrances to avoid queueing and loved elements such as the monkey bars and net.
After playing on the equipment for the first time, Ottilie (5S) exclaimed ‘I love that there are now bars on every playground’ and Hannah (4LL) said that ‘the monkey bars were her favourite part’. The children were passionate about the fact that it had been built with reclaimed wood and loved the bright colours that were chosen. For years to come, the children will know that their contribution is long-lasting and that generations after them will love playing out there on something that they designed, for them!
